Pendant lights or chandeliers in a bedroom are a way of adding a bit of drama, detail, and texture to a design. Whether it is one pendant light over the bed, or two on either side, pendant lights are practical since they provide more space on the nightstands and add ambient or task lighting.
One important factor to consider when looking at pendant lights for your bedroom is your ceiling height. This style best fits rooms with a ceiling height of at least nine feet. For those with a ceiling height of less than nine feet, flush mounts are perhaps a better option.
Whether you center your chandelier in the room or place your chandelier above the bed, the bottom of the chandelier should hang roughly seven feet above the floor. The chandelier shouldn't impede the view of a TV screen, nor pose a safety hazard as you sit up and climb in and out of bed.
When choosing pendant lights suspended on either side of the bed, it is important to consider the size of your nightstands. The rule of thumb for pendant lights is that the lowest point of the light is 76 and 86 cm (30 to 33 inches) from the top of the table, so it leaves you ample space for your bedside necessities.
